God's Glory Declared

Saturday, October 1, 2011

1The heavens declare the glory of God, and the sky above proclaims his handiwork.
2Day to day pours out speech, and night to night reveals knowledge. 3There is no speech, nor are there words, whose voice is not heard. 4Their voice goes out through all the earth, and their words to the end of the world. In them he has set a tent for the sun. - Psalm 19:1-4

Glory (get this now) is any manifestation of God, anything that evidences God's existence. Glory is God’s supernatural signature. Now does God have handwriting? Yes, He does. Every time you see glory, that's the handwriting of God. Every time you see something that leaves you wide-eyed and speechless, that's glory. Only God could have done that; only God could have made that, and it doesn't have to be something big. I mean you can look at a little bird out on the end of a branch . . . singing that song that is unique to type. The tune’s great, but let me translate the words for you: "There's a God!" That's what every bird is singing, "There's a God! Look at me! Watch me fly! How do you think I got here?" That bird is shouting the existence of God.

The next time you're at a beach somewhere and you hear the waves rolling and crashing on the shore, let me translate their repeated message: "There's a God! There's a God!" It's His supernatural signature. It's the beauty that flows through the pen of the Designer as He writes His purpose on this universe.

Or stand at night, as I often do, and look out into the outer space and consider the vast expanse that no one can understand. Admit with me, "I do not understand it." What is the vast reach of outer space shouting to us? Right! "There's a God!" Every place you look and listen throughout creation the message reverberates: "There's a God! There's a God! There's a God!" And when any human being on the face of the earth has that transcendent moment when they see glory, when they witness the fingerprints of God, they begin to understand that the glory of God is the purpose of the universe. Psalm 19:1 bears out, “The heavens declare the glory of God, and the sky above proclaims his handiwork.” The glory of God is the purpose of the universe. Before God said the first “LET THERE BE…,” He had a reason, a plan—to display His glory.

  • Wherever I am right at this moment, what in my surroundings gives me a sense of God’s glory?
  • Why is that?

Father, let me see more of Your glory, and let me reflect Your glory, too. Work in my life in such a way that others are drawn to You. Teach me to enthusiastically join the rest of the creation chorus not only in shouting, “There’s a God” but also adding, “And I know Him!” In Jesus’ name, the One who makes You known, Amen.
