Revelation 1:12-17 Then I turned to see the voice that was speaking with me. . . .His head and His hair were white like white wool, like snow; and His eyes were like a flame of fire. His feet were like burnished bronze, when it has been made to glow in a furnace, and His voice was like the sound of many waters. In His right hand He held seven stars, and out of His mouth came a sharp two-edged sword; and His face was like the sun shining in its strength. When I saw Him, I fell at His feet like a dead man. . . .
It’s not like I wanted to meet President Bush. It’s not the kind of thing I normally do. I’m Canadian and besides I’ve never given a lot of energy to the political arena. Why? Because I’m kind of skeptical. I wish I wasn’t but I am.
Anyway, I respect the man who invited me so I got my dear wife into the car and we headed to downtown Chicago. As we drove I thought, “it’s no big deal; we stand in the line, we shake the hand, we meet the president, the picture is taken and we go home. No big deal.”
Wow, I could not have been more wrong. I was blown away by how small and weak I felt in the moment I met the one they call, “the most powerful man on earth.” Still he’s just a man.
What will it be like as the moment approaches for you to meet Jesus Christ face to face? Beware the tendency to underestimate just how big a deal that will really be. Make sure you’re not living as though that moment is far off, and can be dealt with when it gets closer. This very day you will make choices that impact your ultimate accounting to the King of Kings. Keep that in mind as you talk to people, and make choices about your priorities. Make sure you have a biblical picture of who Jesus really is because in what will seem like just a few moments, you will be meeting Jesus Christ the Lord.
