walk in the word
3And this is eternal life, that they know you the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom you have sent. 4I glorified you on earth, having accomplished the work that you gave me to do. 5And now, Father, glorify me in your own presence with the glory that I had with you before the world existed. —John 17:3-5
I’m telling you it’s everywhere—distorted pictures of Jesus, taking certain features of Him and so exaggerating and twisting who the Scripture really says that He is, that you end up with a Jesus who isn’t Jesus! You’d better make sure you’re not following a false Jesus.
Jesus Christ is Lord. You’d better be on the program with the real Jesus, not something you just made up along the way. God’s Word is the authority on all that Jesus is with no features avoided, neglected, or exaggerated.
I made a handy list of five caricatures of Jesus you must reject. None of these will save you, forgive you, or take you to heaven. None of these will change your life.
See, that’s the problem with a caricature.
There is truth in there, but it’s the emphasis of one thing to the exclusion of other things.
That’s why His title is helpful. No matter what we’re talking about, Jesus is Lord!
Father, help me to never use Your title as nothing more than a way to launch my prayers. Help me to remember that I get in trouble as soon as I forget that You remain Lord 24/7. Thank You for all the good that happens when I settle into and live by the truth that You are Lord! In Jesus’ name, Amen.
