walk in the word

“For the love of Christ controls us, because we have concluded this: that one has died for all, therefore all have died” (2 Corinthians 5:14).
There’s probably not a Christian reading this who hasn’t at one time in their life had a strong desire to share the good news of Jesus Christ. Question: What keeps us telling others the good news of Jesus Christ throughout our lives?
For sure I can tell you what doesn’t motivate us long-term. People’s overwhelming need for Christ doesn’t sustain our passion for evangelism. At this moment, teeming masses of people that we’ll never know are arriving at their Christ-less, hopeless eternal home. That makes us sad, but it doesn’t drive us to the streets. Even an overwhelming love and compassion for these people isn’t enough to keep us going. The apostle Paul laid down his life for the gospel, but he never wrote, “I do this because of the people.”
Neither of these typically held reasons last for long. The only lifelong motivation I know that stokes the fire is found in one source: a personal, dynamic, fired-up, ongoing relationship with Jesus Christ.
When you’re passionate about Jesus, spreading the fame of His name comes very naturally. Your love for Him becomes your highest motivation. Paul said in 2 Corinthians 5:14, “Christ’s love compels us.” When we think about His love for us and our responsive love for Him, we can’t help but tell others about our phenomenal Savior and how He’s changed our life.
God’s heart is for the name of His Son to be flown high on the flagpole in every country on the face of the earth—in every language, every tongue, and every tribe (Rev. 14:6). He wants everyone to have a chance to hear the news that Jesus Christ came to be our Savior.
The only motivation that compels us to keep sharing the amazing story of Jesus’ love for sinners is our passionate love for Him. That makes us fly the flag high. When we’re part of that happening, there’s something in our spirit that leaps up within us and says, “That’s right! That’s what it’s all about.”
Have you ever thought that the reason God has placed you in your particular neighborhood, in your extended family, in your workplace—everywhere you go—is to fly the flag of Jesus Christ in your part of the world? Lift high the name of Jesus; tell people how phenomenal He is and how He’s changed your life. Spread the fame of His name—and do it out of your love for Him.
