walk in the word
15O Lord, you know; remember me and visit me, and take vengeance for me on my persecutors. In your forbearance take me not away; know that for your sake I bear reproach. 16Your words were found, and I ate them, and your words became to me a joy and the delight of my heart, for I am called by your name, O Lord, God of hosts. —Jeremiah 15:15-16
God calls His Word food. He offers it to us as the bread of life. If you are intent on following Jesus, you’re going to consume His Word. It’s not enough to hold it: “I carry my Bible everywhere I go. I have one in my purse. I have one in my glove compartment.”
It’s not enough to admire it: “I respect and revere the Word of God. I value the Bible.” You have to eat it up. You have to imbibe it yourself. I long for us to be a people that devours the Word of God. Do you have an appetite for God’s Word?
Let me give you five actions that are involved in consuming God’s Word:
Father in heaven, I long to anticipate and participate in reading Your Word like feasting on a fine meal. Remind me that You have gone to great lengths to make Your Word available to me in a language I can understand! I know I’m not going to be spiritually healthy if I’m not eating regularly from the food You have provided for my soul! Make me a consumer of Your Word! In Jesus’ name, Amen.
